Remember when your mother did her "spring cleaning"? It was a time when the dust was brushed off things like coolers and beach bags that had been packed away in closets in preparation for the approaching summer and for her to get rid of some of that junk in the garage/basement/attic/insert a spot here.
Well, I'm doing that. Except I'm a season behind. Oops! Better late than never, right?
I'm finding it somewhat cathartic. The thinning out in an attempt to reduce the amount of clutter around the house feels a bit like weight being lifted. Yet, despite that feeling it's been difficult and I find myself saying similar to things you'd hear on TLC's "Hoarders". YIKES!!
They say that unless it's something valuable, a family heirloom, something that you do use occasionally (like my huge pot specifically for boiling lobsters, which I use about once a year), if you haven't used it, handled it other than to move it from one place to another, worn it, etc, in 3 months time, then you can donate/trash/sell it. I'm finding this pile ever growing. Which is a good thing.
I just wish it felt easier.
